Clean Start

This is my second Terry Walters book. The first, Clean Food was... make that is... delightful. and I think I like her latest Clean Start even better, if that's possible. If fact, it could almost turn this carnivore into a vegetarian. I said almost, but really it will be gracing our table several times a week - if not as a main then at least as a side dish.

The photos are stunning - I drool over each one. It's almost reason enough to buy the book, which is divided by seasons. Given the weather outside (not to mention the power failures due to high winds), I'm focusing on the Fall & Winter sections of the book.

First up was the most delicious lentil dish (and I love lentils) I've ever eaten. It even got me to try out celeriac or celery root (I'm not usually a big fan of celery). French Lentils with Roasted Roots, Caramelized Onions and Thyme was beyond words.
The Sauteed Greens with Leeks & Garlic that made a great side dish was even better as left overs for a perfect frittata.
And this Herb Roasted Cauliflower & Brussels Sprouts with Mushrooms was a great pairing with steak... not to mention perfect as leftovers too.

Soon to be on our menu...New Year's Soup with carrots, parsnips, greens, black eyed peas and fresh oregano simmered in a vegetable broth and a splash of apple cider vinegar when served. Curried Cauliflower Stew with Chickpeas also has me drooling.

Those are just some of the Winter dishes... I can't wait for the rest of the seasons.

Bottom line: If you're looking for healthy, mouth-watering dishes... this is the book for you.
